I try not to get political here, but he has said things about general groups of people that are reprehensible. America has a long history of candidates attacking one another, all the way back to Jefferson and Adams, and that is fine. Lashing out at whole swathes of fellow citizens is not cool.

Also, what he has “promised” if elected, in many circumstances, is unconstitutional and shows little outward understanding of how our government functions. I know he is smart enough to know how things work. The fact that he is willing to play dumb to get votes is what pisses me off.

I don’t see myself as getting political here per se , but there are many very intelligent people on this board and the dialog here is consistently of very high quality, not least, your comment above. There’s just an extreme irony about the ascendency of Donald Trump that I just gotta recognize. I like how you put the lashing out at whole swathes thing, but I also appreciate that Trump is not evangelical and not anti-gay. Those are some big pluses in my book. (Please don’t construe this as an endorsement for DT.)

Yeah, those are pluses and part of what makes me think he is playing some crazy, long, ultimate prank on all of us. There was a theory a while back that he ran as an R to help his long time friends the Clintons. Now that Hillary has gotten herself into a spot where her electability is questionable what do they do?

It blows my mind that he can go out and say and do things that are 180 degrees off of what he should be doing and he gains share. Only thing he hasn’t done is punch a veteran grandmother and actually crapping on the flag. Still plenty of time in the race though.
